Advocacy Project: Healthy People/THOMAS

1. Focus Area 22:  Physical Activity

  • Goal: Improve health, fitness, and quality of life through daily physical activity.
  • Objective 22.2: Increase the proportion of adults who engage in moderate physical activity for at least 30 minutes per day 5 or more days per week or vigorous physical activity for at least 20 minutes per day 3 or more days per week.
  • Target of Objective: 32% of adults aged 18years and older engaged in moderate physical activity for at least 30 minutes per day or physical activity for at least 20 minutes per day in 1997

2. Objectives Continued:

  • In 2001, the language of objective 22.2 was changed after November 2000 publication to include adults who met the definition for vigorous physical activity.
  • Target revised from 30 because of baseline revision after November 2000 publication
  • Baseline revised from 15 after November 2000 publication
  • Target Method: Better than the best

  1. This is such a need in our country. I am glad we are making some progress towards getting more adults to exercise, even if it is just moderate activity. It is so important. I noticed with a lot of the objectives they changed wordings or some part of it. I suppose that is how the evaluation process works with things like these. Recognizing physicaly education is definitely important so hopefully we see some action with this bill.

  2. This is a great topic and is super important for healthy living. With the increased numbers in obesity this will hopefully help things change for our country. I think it will not only help with obesity, but other issues with illness and disease.

  3. It's kind of sad that such a small percent of the population exercises on a regular basis. I'm curious to know what other developed countries rates may be. Obesity is obviously a huge issue and it's something that we can obviously improve on. I like your bills idea but I think that it should be more than a week, people need to realize that its a life time thing not just something you should move from after the weeks done.
