Eye Opener: Environmental Working Group

The product that I chose to look up was my favorite, Covergirl Lash Blast Volume Mascara.  The ingredients within this product our linked to:
- cancer
- development/reproductive toxicity
- allergies/immunotoxicity
- use restrictions
Other concerns for ingredients used in this product:
Endocrine disruption, Persistence and bioaccumulation,Organ system toxicity (non-reproductive), Multiple, additive exposure sources, Irritation (skin, eyes, or lungs),Enhanced skin absorption, Contamination concerns,Occupational hazards, Biochemical or cellular level changes
I feel along with what we have learned about everything else so far...nothing is going to be good for us.  I can't believe something so small can lead to so many other hazardous things.  Although, each person's susceptibility is different & each of the ingredients is only a small amount, there is always that chance that something could happen.  So far so good though.  Maybe i'll have to take a look into other options and brands out there.  (For those of you who didn't know...The Whole Foods Co-op has there own line of makeup products!)

  1. I use mascara pretty much daily, and it's a little sketchy to find out that it is linked to cancer!! I never even thought about how much harm our cosmetics could cause-- we always just focus on the bigger things.

  2. I did not know that Whole Foods Co-Op has their own line. I wonder the cost? Surprisingly, make up is one thing I do spend a lot of money on, so I do not feel that cost would hinder me from going organic. Perhaps something to look into :)

  3. Every time I go to the co-op I pass by the cosmetic area and have thoughts about getting organic makeup and other things but those thoughts are always hindered by my logic of costs or just comfort with the current brands I use.

  5. Wow, everything in the world is terrible for us. Who knew? I would LOVE to be able to afford to go organic, but at this point in my life I just can't afford to make a 100% compitment. Once I land my first grownup job, then it'll be all green!
